Summer time and the livin is easy...

In winter I get up at night...

...and dress by yellow candle-light....

...in summer quite the other way...

...I have to go to bed by day....

...I have to go to bed and see...

...the birds still hopping on the tree...

...or hear the grown-up people's feet...

...still going past me in the street...

...and does it not seem hard to you...

...when all the sky is clear and blue...

...and I should like so much to play...

...to have to go to bed by day?

The Beach...

Maggie and Millie and Molly and May
went down to the beach to play one day...
...and Maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn't remember her troubles...
...and
Millie befriended a stranded star
who's rays five languid fingers were...
...and Molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles...
...and May came home with a smooth round stone-
as small as a world and as large as alone...
...
For whatever we lose like a you or a me
it's always ourselves we find in the sea.”
-E.E. Cummings
